Do you try to arrange for a weekends fishing with the family or friends but it just never seems to happen. Then from our experience you may be more likely to get away from it all by joining a Club such as ours. Overall the club is only as competitive as individual members want to make it. Many of our members quite simply use Field Days as a means to escape the rat race by being able to plan for club events in advance. The South Suburban Angling Club Inc is a shore-based family orientated club established in 1969. We hold General meetings on the last Monday of the month at the Maddington Football Club starting at 8.00pm . Currently we have approximately 40 members including men, women, juniors and mini juniors. We fish at club field days once a month for 11months of the year, with the 12th month being our trophy night. Field Days are usually conducted on the first weekend of the month, but also include some long weekends for venturing further afield to locations such as Bremer Bay and Port Gregory. Most venues are fishable by 2WD although a 4WD can be an advantage. We currently operate 4 divisions within the club consisting of: | Open | Any member can register as an open competitor | | Ladies | Any Female member | | Juniors | Members between 12 to 16 years of age | | Mini Juniors | Members up to 11 years of age |
Each division has field day winners and a division champion with the Club Champion being the member with the greatest overall points at the end of the year. We also run a secondary informal local competition based between Golden Bay and Burns Beach on a monthly basis This provides the opportunity for members, that for one reason or another may not be able to attend away venues to still compete within a club environment. Trophies are awarded for 1st and 2nd place for the fishing year based on the highest aggregate points and have no bearing on the championship results. From a conservation point of view we impose our own legal lengths on bread & butter fish and will from time to time reduce bag limits or exclude certain species from competition. In addition we promote the ideal of leaving only footprints behind by all our members. We have number of Social events throughout the year. Events held every including a night consisting of ten-pin bowling followed by dinner and our Trophy night. Other events worked in around these in the past have included Car Rallies; Quiz Nights, New Years parties and general get togethers for slide presentations and BBQ's. The club believes in giving assistance to fellow members and in particular teaching and encouraging junior members in the ethics of fishing for the future. New members are most welcome. |
